Dangers of promoting the wrong product?
Short answer:
You will lose sales and your reputation.
Little long answer:
To drive this point home, I wanna tell you a silly story about a dude I met on twitter. He was an email marketer... and… his ideas resonated with me so I decided to join his list.
Even though he did many things wrong.
Even though all his emails were pure pitch.
I liked his tenacity to send daily emails to my inbox, but I lost him when he was launching his new product.
What was the product?
It was about how you can protect your emails from promotions tab hell.
Now, there is nuthin' wrong with the product.
Plus, I have seen a demand for such products too.
But the thing is (almost) all of his daily emails landed in my promotions. Even the very first launch email safely landed in my promotion tab.
Now, think about this for a second.
A guy whose emails land in the promotions tab is pitching you to buy his course on how-to-avoid landing in the promotions tab.
What a bizness move.
It reminds me of a college joke which is too dark to share on the internet.
Anyways, there’s a big lesson in here.
This tells a lot about his bizness values and principles.
This shows that if he have to... he’s ready to do anything to make money, even when he’s clearly not qualified, wise, or experienced to do so.
And perhaps in the short run, he might make sales too.
But you know what?
He will lose all his reputation.
And as far as I know... this is the most important thing for any business or brand.
Protect your reputation at all costs.
