My love and hate relationship with muse

Yesterday was a creativeless day.

I was trying hard to turn my creative clock... but for some strange reason, I couldn't.

And it got me wondering...

Many times when go to bed at night, even when I'm not thinking of writing (or creating something new...) I still get ideas.

And you know what?

These ideas are so powerful that I just couldn't let 'em stray (or slip) through my mind.

I reluctantly wake up from my bed, look for my notebook to jot em down. And even though I hate doing this... I love how I can use these powerful ideas as fodder for my emails, posts, and threads

This is my love-and-hate relationship.

And you know what?

Steven (the author of the book War of Art) talks about something similar.

He says how creativity is not in your command.

It's in the command of what he calls "muse".

A mythological greek goddess.

She provides creative inspiration to writers, painters, singers, and all other artists of our blue planet. But you know... to make the process of receiving creative energy easier, Steven (before he starts writing) recites a special prayer to Muse... every single day.

He shared his exact prayer in his book

Now...

I don't recite this prayer.

But I do something similar every morning to invoke my muse.

A special kind of mediation visualization.

But yesterday, I skipped my practice thinking I'm too smart and I can begin my writing work without it.

And see how I was humbled by muse.

Makes me chuckle.
